As of the census of 2010, there were 59,798 people, 26,977 households, and 15,932 families residing in the City. The population density was 5,139.4 per square mile (1,984.3/km²). There were 28,467 housing units at an average density of 2,449.8 per square mile (945.9/km²). The racial makeup of the City was 92.7% White, 3.9% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 1.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.70% of the population.

There were 26,977 households out of which 22.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.4% had a male householder with no wife present and 40.1% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.90.

In the City the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 20, 4.9% from 20 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44.2 years. Females comprised 52.2% of the population while males comprised 47.8% 

The median income for a household in the City was $52,775, and the median income for a family was $67,311. Males had a median income of $53,325 versus $40,957 for females. The per capita income for the City was $28,774. About 7.1% of families and 8.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.4% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those of age 65 or over.
