Schools
Three complete award-winning school districts and several private schools serve our residents' educational needs. Curriculums align with state standards and benchmarks and claim modern technology and science facilities. In fact, St. Clair Shores students consistently post some of the highest MEAP scores in Macomb County.
St. Clair Shores is part of three school districts: Lake Shore, Lakeview and South Lake.
- Lake Shore Public Schools is located in the northern part of St. Clair Shores. They are made up of nine educational buildings and provide early childhood and adult education and K-12 curriculum.
- Lakeview Public Schools offers K-12 education and latchkey services. They are made up of seven schools and are located in the center of St. Clair Shores.
- South Lake Schools are located on the south end of St. Clair Shores and are made up of five school buildings. They offer advanced placement and honors courses for students.
Library
The St. Clair Shores Public Library offers a variety of print and online resources for library card holders. They have a large in-person selection of books and media for personal check-out, online databases, and digital catalogs. They also offer programs for all ages, like early-reader storytimes and teen volunteering opportunities.

Our Code Enforcement Department fields hundreds of inquiries every week. If your call was to file a complaint, you may not receive a call back; however, we have logged the complaint and are pursuing it. - Do I need a permit for a garage sale or block sale?

Yes, anyone hosting a garage or block sale needs a permit. You can pick up and submit permits at to the Community Development & Inspections (CDI) Department in City Hall.
Garage sale permits are $5 and block sale permits are $25 for a minimum of 5 properties. Please list all participating addresses on the application form. City Hall takes payment as cash, check or credit card. There is a 3% fee and a minimum of $1.50 for credit card charges.
Permit Details
- Permits need to be displayed in a location easily seen from the street.
- Permits are valid for three consecutive days.
- Do not place any sale signs in the public right of way between the sidewalk and the street or they are subject to confiscation.
- Do not attach signs to trees, utility poles or other public signs.
- Signs should be completely removed at the end of the sale.
- Individual residences may participate in not more than two block sales per year.
- Individual residences cannot host more than three garage sales per year.
Violation of sale regulations are subject to fines and penalties set forth in the SCS City Ordinances 15.000 and 19.150.

If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be celebrated as the holiday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be celebrated as a holiday.

- When are City Council meetings held?

City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of every month and on Tuesday when Monday falls on a City designated holiday. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers located at City Hall.
- My garbage wasn’t picked up today even though it is trash day. Who do I contact?
