Terms of Use (Please, read before posting.)  
We welcome you and your comments to the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page 

PURPOSE OF THE CITY OF ST CLAIR SHORES FACEBOOK PAGE: 
 1) To provide local citizens with information about government programs, services and events.

2) To provide a limited public forum for local citizens to share viewpoints and engage in dialogue with one another on matters of public interest within the guidelines specified below.

CRITERIA FOR POSTING INFORMATION ON THE CITY OF ST. CLAIR SHORES FACEBOOK PAGE: 
Friends of the City of the St. Clair Shores Facebook Page are encouraged to post information, pictures or videos about issues and events affecting the City's residents. We encourage discussion and varying viewpoints. However, the City of St. Clair Shores reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to ban users and/or remove comments, links to sites, pictures or videos from posts that violate the Terms of Use. Users are prohibited from posting under a false username or "handle" that is not the user's legal name. Individuals may post under a username that includes a nickname provided the user's last name is also included in the username...ex. "Stuntman" Mike Johnson or "Beth Jones." Businesses, organizations and clubs may post under their business, organization or club name...ex. ABC Corporation, Volunteer Committee. In accordance with the City of St. Clair Shores communications policies, the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page will not allow the posting of comments, information, links to sites, images, promotions or advertisements that are any of the following:

  • The encouragement of illegal activity of any nature. 
  • Nudity or pornography.
  • Profanity
  • Hate language
  • Adult entertainment
  • The encouragement or depiction of hostility, violence or violent behavior.
  • Obscene, indecent or sexually explicit messages including those with sexual overtone or innuendo.
  • False, misleading or deceptive information, sponsorships and/or advertisements.
  • Personal attacks and/or threats against any person or group.
  • Language or information that is obscene, foul, vulgar, or abusive.
  • Libelous, harassing or abusive statements.
  • Information harmful to children either emotionally or physically.
  • Cruelty to animals.
  • Online casino gaming, gambling or betting.
  • Third-party posting of non-public personal information without the person's permission or knowledge including, but not limited to, telephone numbers and/or social security numbers.
  • Re-posting of comments, links to sites, information, pictures or videos by the same user that have been previously found to be in violation of the Terms of Use and or removed by the City because they were found to be a violation of the Terms of Use.
  • Comments that are not related to the original thread posted by the City or another user, also known as “hi-jacking” or “trolling”. Users are encouraged to post non-related posts separately under Posts to Page.
  • Posting the same comment on multiple threads by the same user that may or may not be related to the original thread.
  • Threads posted or shared in whole or in part from other Facebook pages to the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page must comply with the published City of St. Clair Facebook Terms of Use. Comments in violation of the City’s Terms of Use may be deleted and/or the user may be banned from posting on the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page.

The City, comprised of City Council and/or the City Manager, when necessary, reserves the right to amend the foregoing guidelines and to apply them as circumstances dictate. The Communications Commission will review any decisions made by the City Manager regarding the Terms of Use at their next meeting and make recommendations to City Council for permanent inclusion into the Terms of Use statement.

BY USING OUR PAGE, YOU REPRESENT AND AGREE THAT: 
1) You have read and agree to abide by the aforementioned conditions; 
2) You are the owner of and responsible for any material you post; 
3) The materials you post will not violate the rights of other people or entities; 
4) You will indemnify and hold harmless the City of St. Clair Shores from and against any liability arising the breach of any of these Terms of Use
5) You understand and agree that the Terms of Use published on the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page constitute notification of guidelines of behavior. The City will attempt to make (1) one notification via email (if known) or Private Message (if available) to the user of a violation of the Terms of Use. If the email address/Private Message is unavailable, then the Terms of Use published on the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Page will constitute the sole notification of a violation. The City will not engage in a discussion/argument with the user regarding the validity of the violation in the notification process. Failure to remove the comment(s), links to sites, pictures or videos within a 24-hour period will result in the permanent deletion of the comment, links to sites, pictures or videos or the banning of user, depending on the severity of the violation. Visibility of the offending comment(s), links to sites, pictures or videos to other users may be suspended at the discretion of the City of St. Clair Shores Facebook Administrator during the 24-hour time period.

Please, note that the comments expressed on this site do not reflect the opinions and positions of the City of St. Clair Shores, its Mayor, City Council, Administration or employees. Comments posted by users may not necessarily be correct; therefore, the City does not verify or support any information posted by users.

Appeal Process: The City of St. Clair Shores reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to ban users or remove comments, links to sites, pictures or videos from posts that violate the Terms of Use.  An appeal from a decision made under these rules shall be submitted to the Communications Commission in written form and addressed to the Communications Director. The Communications Director shall notify the members of the Communications Commission within three business days of the appeal. Appeals shall be addressed by the Commission at a regularly scheduled meeting. Appeals shall be subject to a majority ruling by the Communications Commission. The decision of the Communications Commission is final.
